I am Keith Bacongco, a journalist based in Davao City. Although born in Koronadal City (South Cotabato), I learned to read, write and think in a sleepy town of Pigcawayan in North Cotabato.
At 17, I joined a weekly community newspaper in Cotabato City. I also used to write for the Manila Times and defunct Today — until it folded in 2005. But I started shooting in 2000 while he covering the war in across Mindanao. In the past, I used to string for Reuters . I also used to shoot/write for Business Mirror.
Bobby Timonera, a colleague at Mindanews, was my first mentor on photography at his garage school, which I call it: The Timonera Academy.
Then on 2007, I was able to get a grant from the Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University where I took up and finished Diploma in Photojournalism after a year of bloody tussle.
I’m now shooting and writing for MindaNews, an online news agency owned and managed by Mindanawon journalists. Aside from MindaNews, I also contribute pictures and stories to InterAksyon.Com
Currently, we are running a group, which is collective of photographers, called AKP Images.
