DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Seasoned journalist Edwin Espejo respected the right of Saragani Rep. Manny Pacquiao to lodge a libel case against him, but said a battery of women lawyers volunteered their services for the case.
The case stemmed from the stories of Espejo claiming that a carjacker who has been allegedly running a syndicate supposedly sought refuge in Pacquiao’s General Santos home to evade arrest.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Six were killed, including a police officer and two suspects, following a foiled robbery at an agricultural supply store in Barangay Cagangohan in Panabo City Tuesday afternoon.
Police officials said the suspects went on shooting spree as they arrived at the store, which is owned by a Filipino-Chinese Leo Apalie Lai.
Killed on the spot were Edgar Mocos (security guard) and Allen Jones Polo (a store employee).
Another employee Darios Pilotos was also wounded in the incident while some of their colleagues were able to jump over the fence at the back of the warehouse.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Street food vendors here assured that public that the food items they are selling are safe to eat as they are observing proper food preparation prescribed by the concerned government agencies.
This as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) released to the media last week a joint study with a German non-profit organization, which discovered that most of the samples taken from the street foods here in the urban center are unsafe. (Read More)

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The City Agriculture Office said Friday that Davaoeños and tourists alike may now enjoy the bountiful harvest of Durian fruits starting this month and may even extend until Araw ng Dabaw in March.
Unlike in the past, when Durian season comes every July and August, Leonardo Avila III, acting chief of the City Agriculture Office, said the Durian fruiting came five to six months late due to rains.
Avila said the volume is determined by the selling price, which has now dropped from P70 per kilo to just P30 to P35 per kilo. (View Source)

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Local water district here has justified the implementation of water price hike next month, saying the Local Water Utilities Administration has approved in 2005 the increase water rates by 20 percent in 2012 and 10 percent in 2013.
But Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has requested the Davao City Water District (DCWD) to implement increase in three years, spokesperson Imelda Magsuci relayed.
Magsuci added the company needed water rate adjustment to augment the improvement of the pipelines as well as expansion of services in the northern part of the city. (View Source)
