The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is the largest Moro rebel movement operating in Mindanao. Established in 1977, the MILF was founded by late Ustadz Hashim Salamat after a split with Nur Misuari-led Moro National Liberation Front (MILF).
After the fall of its main headquarters — the Camp Abubakar Assidique in the boundary of Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao provinces — the MILF has shifted to guerrilla warfare. The group, now led by Al Hadj Murad Ebrahim, is currently talking peace with the Philippine government.
