Exodus

Hundreds of residents from Aleosan and Pikit in North Cotabato fled their homes on Monday (August 20, 2012) due to the reported presence of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF). They feared getting caught in the crossfire should clashes erupt between the BIFF and government forces. Most of the evacuees are now staying at the evacuation centers in Pikit. (2012)

#ThrowbackThursday: Pikit plaza / 2018. All eyes #ThrowbackThursday: Pikit plaza / 2018.

All eyes are on Pikit these days again due to spate of killings of minors.

In span of two days, two teenage boys were killed in gun attacks and two others were also injured.

Since September last year, about 30 persons have been killed due to gun attacks.

All of these cases remain unsolved to this day.

Local government officials fear that these incidents could once again polarize the Christians and Muslims in the locality.

It took years for the locals, CSOs and church to mend the strained relationships wedged by decades of conflict.

I would like to remember Pikit like these decors hanging over the town plaza.

Like rainbows, people of different colors and belief could coexist in harmony.

After two-year hiatus, devotees celebrate the Feas After two-year hiatus, devotees celebrate the Feast of Senior Sto.Niño in Barangay Piapi, #DavaoCity on Sunday.

The devotees were not able to gather for the celebration in the last two years due to quarantine restrictions amid the pandemic.

Established in 1947, the chapel in Piapi is the oldest community of Sto.Nino devotees in the city.

According to the elders, they trace their roots in Cebu and Leyte provinces. Many of them migrated to Davao City even before the World War 2.
