On dawn September 3, a fire razed an informal settlers’ community in Barangay Leon Garcia, Davao City. The fire did not just render at least 60 families homeless but is also partially destroyed a two-storey school building of neighboring Congressman Manuel Garcia Elementary School.
Moreover, the fire at the school building also razed almost all of the learning modules for the almost 800 learners of the school.
According to reports, an alleged drunk resident reportedly poured a gasoline inside his rented house and set it on fire. Villagers said the man had a heated argument with his partner before he torched his house.
But days after the incident, the teachers were able to figure out means to reproduce the burnt modules.
According to them, their school principal went around to nearby schools to have the modules printed.
