I was expecting that prices of onion would go down at the start of the year.

But I was wrong.

For several days now, some vendors in Bankerohan Market, Davao City have temporarily ceased operations or no longer sell onions due to skyrocketing prices.

“We don’t have a choice but to open our stalls because we also need to pay our daily rent,” one of the vendors lamented.

Before Christmas, onions were sold between P350 to P400 per kilo.

Today, prices of onions range from P500 to P540 per kilo in the local market.
